KAGAN PUTT https://aaronkaganputt.com/About About My work engages themes of transience, permanence, and the tension between the tangible and the ineffable. Drawing inspiration from sacred architecture, science fiction, and natural cycles, I create abstract forms that evoke a sense of wonder and possibility, and explore themes related to the intersection of architectural, ecological, and perceptual structures. Through layered materials–resin-encased organic objects, personal photographs, found artifacts, and experimental arrangements–I examine the interplay between fragility and resilience. These hybrid compositions offer glimpses into alternative realities that consider the vastness of ecological cycles and man-made systems that defy human comprehension. Rooted in material discovery and imaginative reconfiguration, my practice is a search for the sublime in contemporary terms: not as an escape into the immaterial, but as a space where doubt, wonder, and resilience can coexist. The works become openings, provisional shelters that ask us to imagine more than the status quo; to see in fragments and overlooked matter the beginnings of alternative realities and new structures of meaning. I live and work in Atlanta, GA and teach at Emory University. My multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, sculpture, drawing, and photographic processes. I hold an MFA and an MA in Art History from Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA and a BFA from Univeristy of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. My work has been exhibited at venues including the Atlanta Contemporary, Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA), the National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Minsk, Belarus, and the Kokoka International House Gallery in Kyoto, Japan.
